Athlete of the Month: Katie Figliomeni

Even when the going gets tough, varsity cross-country runner freshman Katie Figliomeni tries to keep the right attitude all of the time.

“Before cross-country I looked at running as a punishment; it was always what we had to do when we were slacking off or when we were doing conditioning. This year I took a step outside my comfort zone and it’s taught me many things,” Figliomeni said. “I’ve learned that a positive attitude is everything. When you come to practice in a good mood running is much easier.”

Figliomeni attributes much of her indoctrination into the world of cros-country to the older girls’ kind and welcoming personalities.

“Grace Puc, Claire Kovarik, Eva Bednard and Ellie Gross have been huge role models on the team this year. They bring such a bright attitude to practice everyday and give each run their all,” Figliomeni said.
She also plays basketball and plans to join DECA this year, as she wants to pursue a career in business later in the future.
