In a world saturated with too many sodas to choose from, Monster decided to step up to the plate and try to flip the soda world on its head.

The Monster Energy Company released “Mutant Super Soda” recently. Mutant promises to be an “evolution of sparkling refreshment” as described on the label. The soda has a yellow color to it and a lime flavor.

In addition to the soda just released, Monster plans to release “Hydro”, a non-carbonated energy hydration drink, towards the end of the year.

Mutant is very blatantly competing with “Mountain Dew”. Both sodas have the same color and flavor. Mutant and Dew also have the same calorie count at 290, but Mutant has the higher caffeine count at 115 mg opposed to Dew’s 91 mg. The Speedway gas station on Ogden Avenue even went so far as to display them in the same cooler when you enter the store.

Mutant has a very bold flavor that hits hard then fades after a few seconds. The high amount of carbonation touches the tongue with a vengeance and does not stop until it is down the throat.

The soda also comes in a red raspberry variant called “Red Dawn”.

“Mutant Super Soda” is a welcomed addition into the world of soda. The soda competes with and defeates the old guard of “Mountain Dew” in the flavor department. Hopefully the new competitor will cause a rise in competition, because when companies compete, the consumer always wins.
