DGN will host its first Hoops for Heart fundraiser for the American Heart Association on May 5.
PE teacher Jackie McCormick is overseeing the fundraiser, but a majority of the event will be run by the PE leaders.

“A few weeks ago, all of the leaders had meetings with McCormick to talk about what we thought were possible good ideas for the fundraiser,” senior PE leader Karissa Yu said. “We compiled a huge list of activities students could do if they didn’t want to participate in the basketball tournament.”

Aside from basketball, students can also choose to participate in badminton, bags, yoga, zumba and other stress-relieving exercises. In order to participate, students must raise or donate a minimum of ten dollars for the AHA, which will get them a red AHA t-shirt to wear during the event.

“I think the basketball tournament will bring out a huge crowd like the homecoming olympics and dodgeball tournament,” senior PE leader Brian Mejdrech said.

Depending on the success of the fundraiser, McCormick intends to host the PE wellness fair and Hoops for Heart semi annually.

In the future, EKG testing and Hoops for Heart will run in the same year to emphasize having healthy hearts.
