D99 Hoops ‘Team 2’ finished runner-up in Division 2 at the state basketball tournament at Illinois State University on March 11 and 12. They have qualified for state both years of the program’s existence.
Team 2 fell to the Hersey Huskies 36-42 on March 11, but defeated the Rochelle Township High School District Oly Rock Stars ‘Team O’ 42-36 to clinch the second place medal on March 12.
They may not have won the championship, however DGN Freshman Bradley Brennan, who was on Team 2 this year, is nothing but happy about his team’s performance.
“By playing so well on the team, getting some baskets, playing good defense and offense and making sure we win lots of our games [we were able to be successful],” Brennan said.
Brennan is incredibly proud of his team’s season and thinks that the team is amazing. D99 Hoops coach and special education teacher Kim Jaros has no reason to disagree with him. She has coached the team both years.
“We all worked together to meet our common goals of improving basketball skills, communication and teamwork. The athletes worked so hard and played their hearts out. They are committed athletes,” Jaros said.
