This summer, the DGN Spanish program will be taking a very anticipated trip to the country of Spain. Students state that they are extremely excited to take on this journey, and to explore the beautiful culture they have been studying for years.
DGN has been taking these types of trips for years to provide immersive experiences for their students. For example, a couple years ago a group of students took a trip to Costa Rica with beloved recent retiree Micheal Heinz.
For many, the experience represents far more than just travel. It will provide an opportunity to apply years of classroom learning in a meaningful, real world context. “I think a lot of the things that I’ve learned throughout my time with the DGN Spanish program will help me a lot throughout this trip,” Junior Maeve Bogaczyk says.
Whether the students are ordering food at a restaurant, asking for directions, or just having simple conversations, these real-life experiences will continue to challenge DGN students to push themselves out of their comfort zone, and to broaden their view on the world.
However, beyond academics, students are especially eager for the independence and unique experiences the trip will offer. “It’s cool that we will be able to walk around a bit with our friends and have the independence to explore,” Junior Sawyer Harris says.
Being a high school student in a foreign country is definitely something to look forward to, especially when you even just a silver of independence. “We get free time every single day of the trip which I feel like will be nice to explore on our own and not be chaperoned the entire time.” Bogaczyk says.
As the departure date continues to approach, excitement continues to build. Students are not only looking forward to the sights and all-encompassing experiences, but also to the personal growth that comes with traveling abroad, especially as a high school student. The trip promises to be an unforgettable journey, one that combines education, cultural understanding, and lasting memories.
