DGN fundraises to support the Wellness House

This fall, DGN donated to the Wellness House to provide support for cancer patients. Since 2021, DGN has participated in the “No One Fights Alone challenge,” which aims to raise awareness and support to those fighting or affected by cancer.

“We provide free, psychosocial care to cancer patients and their families. Programs include support groups and counseling, exercise classes, nutrition workshops and classes, educational workshops, and stress management classes,” Wellness House CEO Lisa Kolavennu said.

DGN special services teacher Anne Driscoll was diagnosed with cancer the first year of “No One Fights Alone.” She used the resources Wellness House provides to help get through her cancer journey.

“I just think it’s so far reaching. The terrible and sad reality is that so many people are affected by cancer or know a person who has been diagnosed,” Driscoll said.

In October, various DGN clubs walked in support of those affected by cancer. Many students walked specifically for someone they personally know who has fought or is fighting cancer. DGN also held multiple opportunities to raise money for the Wellness House, such as selling pink cupcakes at the school cafe and having the Creamery ice cream truck during the lunch periods.

“We decided to do something a little more local to do an organization that people in our community benefit from. It’s cool to directly see where your money is going,” Driscoll said.
