    Review: Downers Grove Farmers Market

HITTING THE TOWN: The market buzzing with buyers and vendors.

Stop by downtown Downers Grove every Saturday in the late spring, summer, and early fall from 7:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for the farmers market, where you can find good food, fun items, and live music.

The farmers market exceeded my expectations in many ways. Over the summer, I never had the chance to go to the farmers market, and when I did I was happy to find myself surrounded by families, couples, and friends. The farmers market was full and crowded, as the coffee and breakfast sandwich stand each had a consistent line of around 10 people. The wait to get the coffee wasn’t all too bad, as hearing the live band play from the gazebo helped to pass the time. After purchasing my coffee, I set out to explore the other vendors; some sold produce, some sold jewelry, and everyone seemed happy to represent themselves or their company at this welcoming venue.

Of course, I decided that I had to stop for some local produce. As I weaved through the crowds, I managed to get my hands on some fruits and vegetables from various vendors. There was everything from peaches and plums to asparagus and herbs. As I continued to walk through the crowd, I could hear the live music being played, and I made my way to a pickle vendor selling different kinds of pickled goods like giardiniera and the traditional pickled cucumber.

There were many unique vendors who offered a wide variety of goods. After going to the market and talking with some of them, I could really see their passion for what they do. If you’re looking for something to fill your Saturday morning with local vendors and enjoyable music, the market is a great place to check out.
