Review: Logan 2:17 R

In the age of the movie franchise, audiences have come accustomed to seeing an actor play a role over several films, but no one has done it as long as Hugh Jackman. Jackman’s portrayal of Wolverine in the X-Men films lasted 10 movies and 17 years. “Logan”, using its R rating to its full advantage, gives audiences the Wolverine film we deserved and the perfect send off to a character Jackman helped cement in superhero history.
“Logan” stars an old, beaten and broken down Wolverine. Much like Jackman’s time as Wolverine is coming to an end, so is Wolverine’s life. The film takes place in the near future, 2029, where mutants have been eliminated and Wolverine is just a relic of a past time. Jackman gives it his all, with Wolverine’s history of misery, having lived since the late 1880s, being displayed better than ever before.
After “Deadpool” set a precedent for a successful R rated superhero film, Wolverine is able to be depicted in his true form. The lack of blood and gore featured in previous X-Men films comes off as unrealistic considering Wolverine is chopping at people with sharp adamantium claws. “Logan” shows all the violence a moviegoer can handle and really helps the audience understand why an aged Wolverine is tired of all the killing.
All things said and done, “Logan” shows Wolverine in the light he has always deserved. It’s a perfect curtain call to an actor who helped start the comic book franchise movement.
