The inauguration of President Donald J. Trump took place this morning, Jan. 20, 2025. The event happened to coincide with Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and Trump mentioned in his speech that he will strive to make MLK’s dream come true. As always, the swearing-in ceremony took place at the U.S. Capitol Building. However, this year it was held in the Capitol rotunda, rather than outside the building because of the cold temperatures.
Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar spoke first, followed by Republican Senator Deb Fischer. The New York Archbishop, Cardinal Timothy Dolan delivered an invocation and a prayer was said by Evangelical Reverend Franklin Graham.
Vice President JD Vance was sworn in first by Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. His wife, Usha Vance, was by his side, along with their three young children and JD’s mother. President Trump was then sworn in by Chief Justice John Roberts. He was accompanied by his wife Melania and all of his children.
President Trump then addressed the nation for the first time as the 47th president of the United States. He began his remarks by stating that the golden age of America begins today and promised to improve America to a point beyond anything before. President Trump announced that he will sign many executive orders today on matters including the southern border, oil drilling, and law enforcement.
President Trump will be declaring a national emergency at the southern border. His plan is to immediately stop all illegal immigration and begin mass deportations of every illegal immigrant residing in America. He emphasized that he expects armed forces to use full power to eliminate foreign gangs.
The president will also be declaring a national energy emergency. He plans to utilize our nation’s large supply of oil and gas to make America a more prosperous nation. President Trump plans to end the Green New Deal and revoke the electric vehicle mandate. He also voiced his plan to begin building more cars in America.
President Trump demanded to stop all government censorship, bring back law and order to cities, and reinstate a colorblind and merit based society. He also promised to improve our military. He stated that their strength will be measured by battles won, wars ended, and wars that we never get into. President Trump also made mention of his plans to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, take back control of the Panama Canal, and to plant the stars and stripes on Mars. American businessman Elon Musk gave a thumbs up in the audience. Trump closed his speech by promising to win for America and for a Golden Age for America beginning today. President Trump received multiple standing ovations by his supporters.
Country Singer Carrie Underwood performed a rendition of ‘America the Beautiful.’ Multiple speeches were given by spiritual leaders from multiple walks of faith. The ceremony drew to a close with a performance of the national anthem, sung by opera singer Christopher Macchio. After the ceremony, President Trump signed over 200 executive orders.
