Every November, student-athletes across the country sign their NLI (National Letter of Intent) to put their commitment to their college/university on paper. Recently, DGN held their annual fall NLI signing day on Nov. 13. This fall, DGN had 7 athletes sign their NLI to compete at the next level in college next fall.
“We will have a total of six athletes signing this November, five of whom signed on the 13th. This fall, several athletes played lacrosse, softball, and one athlete will be running cross country and track at the collegiate level,” athletic director David Rose said.
The school holds two signing days per school year, one is in November for DI or DII universities and the other is in May which includes all athletes competing in sports next year in college. That day is typically more representative of the greater population of athletes at DGN.
“The Spring signing event will also include all athletes who plan to compete at the collegiate level, representing a range of institutions from D-I through D-III colleges,” Rose said. “This will be an exciting opportunity to celebrate their hard work, dedication, and the bright futures ahead of them in their athletic careers.”
Last year, D99 did not allow either DGN or DGS to extend invitations to outside coaches. Invites were only for immediate family and students and staff at DGN. They decided to make the change to allow the student-athlete to receive the support they deserve for getting the opportunity to play their sport at the collegiate level.
“This fall, we opened the invitation to anyone who would like to join us in celebrating the achievements of our committed athletes and show support for their upcoming collegiate journeys,” Rose said.
The athletes who signed their NLI are as follows: Ashlynn Durkin will be playing softball at Florida-Atlantic University, Sophia Barofsky will be playing softball at Roosevelt University, Ashley Poquette will be playing lacrosse at Eastern Michigan University, Erika Kellam will be playing lacrosse at Rockhurst University, and Ava Gilley will be running cross country and track at UT-Austin.
