After Oasis broke up in 2009, frontman Noel Gallagher created his own band “Noel Gallagher and the High Flying Birds” in 2011.
“Chasing Yesterday” (Sourmash) is the second studio album from Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.
The album is a change of pace from those expecting a sound similar to Oasis, but is a welcome surprise that was beautifully done.
The opening song “Riverman” immediately sets the tone for the album. The calming music combined with Gallagher’s intelligent lyrics tell a story about heartbreak and moving on. The album begins to pick up its tempo with the next song, “In the Heat of the Moment”, and makes it clear that Gallagher is trying to establish himself as an individual artist without Oasis. The song itself is a pleasant, with catchy lyrics that it make a fantastic piece of music.
The greatest song of the album is the last, “The Ballad of the Mighty I”. Gallagher believes this is the best song he’s performed, and it is a masterpiece. The song is beautifully orchestrated and is filled with sophisticated lyrics that are easy on the ears.
With the release of “Chasing Yesterday”, Gallagher established himself as a solo artist. The album allowed him to mature as a vocalist and songwriter, leaving you expecting greatness from him in the future.
