DGN’s first Dance Marathon is set to take place on March 20 in the field house. If tickets were purchased between Feb. 23 and March 9, the cost covered attendance and class colored t-shirts. Proceeds from the marathon will go to Honor Flight Chicago.
“The Dance Marathon was chosen since we are not having the winter dance this year. And this will help us raise money for veterans’ flight tickets from Chicago to Washington D.C. to visit their wars memorials” senior and student council member, Pravalika Lingareddygari said.
Honor Flight was chosen as the charity to fundraise by DGN students during an all-school survey. The non-profit charity sends World War II veterans from the Chicago area to Washington D.C. for a day.
The ultimate goal and purpose of this dance marathon is to raise money by dancing, staying on your feet, and participating in activities for the full three hours. DJ Coach Josh will be there along with inflatable games and a photo booth. There will be special performances by the Athenas, Imani Steppers, and Orchesis.
The dance marathon is collaborating with Spring Into Action week.
“Supporting one another’s programs is essential to create the feeling of a community within a high school. Spring Into Action is a wonderful week where more fortunate individuals can assist others in this world that may not be as privileged,” Social Studies teacher Mary Ricklefs said.
