Freshmen don’t usually get the opportunity to compete at the varsity level. However Riley Prince is a rare exception. While only a couple meets into her high school career, Prince has put up impressive numbers on the 9-hole course: 39 against conference rival York and 40 against Glenbard West.
“She has an edge that allows her to be a fighter on the course,” head coach Matthew Dillard said. “She knows that she deserves to be where she is. She doesn’t play into the mindset of ‘I’m just a freshman so I have to keep my head down.’”
Most freshmen feel nervous competing against upperclassmen, Prince and her teammates face many talented programs throughout the season. However, this has never affected Prince.
“She is a very dedicated person and is always putting in her best effort. She is such a great addition to the team,” senior Michaela Baldwin said.
On Sept. 20, Prince tied for 16th place at the conference tournament shooting an 87. Prince hopes to help lead the team to the state tournament this year.
