The great chicken sandwich debate, finally resolved

May 11, 2021

The great chicken sandwich battle is finally over. For this round, Vanessa Lopez and Olivia Shirk take on the challenge of searching for the best fast-food chicken sandwich. Look no further, we have found the best, worst, and all in between!

Brown’s Chicken

Brown’s Jumbo Chicken Sandwich, to say the least, lived up to its name. Once Vanessa and I opened the package, we were shocked about the sheer size of the sandwich. The pickles, lettuce, and mayo perfectly topped off the crispy chicken. The bun after a while was a little soggy, but that could have been from sitting out a little while. After extensive praise from one of our sports editors and avid Brown’s fan, Timmy Ryan, we chose to give this sandwich a 8/10 overall.

McDonald’s

For our second sandwich of the day, we have the famous McDonalds Crispy Chicken Sandwich. The first thing that we noticed was the lack of pickles in the sandwich and the dryness of the bun. Once we dug in, the immediate burst of flavor was delightful and the crispness of the chicken was very pleasant. The one thing we both agreed on was that a sauce was needed and definitely more pickles. Overall we gave this sandwich a 7/10.

Chick-fil-A

Ahh. The (arguably) most well-known chicken sandwich, the Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich. While both Vanessa and I were eager to try this sandwich, we both had tried it previously. We also made the executive decision to add the famous Chick-fil-A Sauce because most people do add it to the sandwich. The sandwich itself was crispy and the bun tasted delicious. There were only two pickles, but some of the best we tried that day. Overall we give this sandwich a 9.5/10.

Popeyes

With the hype around Popeyes chicken sandwiches, we were both surprised neither of us had ever tested out this sandwich before. We chose the classic sandwich to keep the testing fair and dug into THE Popeyes sandwich. To say we were blown away by the crispness, strong spices of the chicken, and pickles would be an understatement. In fact, we loved it so much that we had to take a pause and ate the sandwich. Not to mention that the sandwich was huge and would leave us full for a long time. Overall we gave this sandwich a 10/10.

Wendy’s

With the win of Wendy’s breakfast sandwich last time we tested, Vanessa and I had high hopes for the Wendy’s Chicken Sandwich. Luckily we were pleasantly surprised with the abundant spices and the fluffiness of the bun. The mayo was laid on a little too heavily for our liking, but if you’re a big mayo fan, then this is the sandwich for you! Overall we gave this sandwich a 9/10.

Arby’s

We had to throw in a curveball somewhere in here and with all of the negative protests from our sports editors Anthony Marsicano and Timmy Ryan, Vanessa and I knew we had to try it out for ourselves. Upon opening the bag, we were, well, a little nervous about digging in. There was a lot going on with this one: bacon, swiss cheese, tomatoes, and lettuce. For our judging, we chose to not factor the bacon into the final score. Honestly, this wasn’t the worst thing I have had, it was EXTREMELY soggy in all the wrong places, but the flavor was solid. Overall we gave this sandwich a 5.5 /10.
