Breakfast sandwich bonanza

March 22, 2021

Looking for the perfect fast-food breakfast sandwich seems like an impossible task. Rising to the challenge, sports editor Vanessa Lopez and photography editor Olivia Shirk, took on the seemingly difficult feat in search of the best breakfast sandwich around.

Wendy’s

For our first early stop of the morning, Vanessa and I headed over to Wendy’s to test out their Sausage, Egg, and Swiss Cheese Croissant Sandwich. While neither of us had previously tried any of Wendy’s breakfast sandwiches, we were very surprised by the flavor of the sandwich. The sausage was extremely flavorful and you could smell the spices wafting through. The bun was nicely toasted and the egg was not too runny. The only problem we had with the sandwich, was that the cheese was very gooey and made for an unpleasant texture. Overall we gave this sandwich a 9/10 after further discussion.

McDonald’s

Our second stop of the day consisted of the famous McDonald’s Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Biscuit. Surprisingly enough, neither of us had ever tried this sandwich before, and luckily it did not disappoint. The first thing we noticed was the flakey, butter biscuit, it was a truly magical experience. The eggs and bacon were still quite good, but the showstopper was the biscuit. The cheese was perfectly melted, not too runny, not too firm. Overall we gave this sandwich an 8.5/10.

Burger King

Marking both of our first times at Burger King we made our way to snag up one of the many breakfast sandwich options. Not knowing what to get, we asked the worker at the window and he recommended the Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Crossan’Which. When we first dug into the sandwich we were pleasantly surprised about the taste. The sausage wasn’t bland and the cheese was perfectly melted. The only thing that was off-putting was the wet and soggy croissant bun. Overall we gave this sandwich a 7.5/10.

Starbucks

While some might not consider Starbucks a fast food restaurant, we decided to still try one. We did notice that this sandwich in particular is a bit smaller in comparison to some others on this list, and a steeper price. The sandwich came nice and toasted when we took it out of the bag and we dug in. The bacon was by far the best we had through our quest, being nice and crispy. The only thing that we would have changed about this sandwich was that the eggs lacked in flavor and the sandwich was on the smaller end. Overall we gave this sandwich an 8.5/10.

Dunkin Donuts

Dunkin Donuts has many options for all breakfast sandwich lovers, from sausage to bacon to ham. While sitting in the drive-through line, we landed on the Sausage, Egg, and Cheese sandwich on a croissant. The sandwich was nothing super special. We both agreed that the egg wasn’t a funky color like some other restaurants, but no real flavor was shining through. Although the croissant was toasted well and the cheese was melted pleasantly. Overall we gave this sandwich a 7.5/10.
