At the 2023 IHSA State track and field meet, senior Vince Davero took second in the triple jump, and this year he’s continuing to set personal records. Davero set the indoor triple and long jump school records at the ‘Clash at the Coliseum’ Invitational Feb. 24, breaking the previous records that stood for 39 years.
Over the summer, Davero participated in the USA track and field National Junior Olympic Championship where he placed second in the triple Jump and 12th in the long Jump.
“The thing that sets him apart most from his competitors is how unassuming he is,” head track coach Andrew Adelmann said. “He is in an event that is dominated by ‘flashiness’ and guys that want to show off how good they are. When he walks out of the pit it is hard to tell whether he just fouled or broke a school record and that is what makes him so clutch.”
With outdoor track season starting in April, Davero is hoping to make his final season his most notable.
“I am determined to become a State champion in long and triple jump and hope to continue to break my own records as the season goes on,” Davero said.
