Athlete of the month: Topher Ferris
November 30, 2020
As other athletes did Sophomore Topher Ferris fought through these unusual times and made the best out of this season.
“I feel as if I did as well as I would’ve if Covid didn’t exist,” Ferris said. “Covid didn’t seem to have an impact on all our performances and we were all very grateful to have raced this season in these crazy times.”
Ferris’s best time this season was 15:36.57 for 3 miles. This personal best was achieved at the IHSA 3A regional meet.
The team stayed in good spirits. They found ways to connect with each other and learn from each other just like any other season. With any sports season, there are unique and funny moments bound to happen to get through the highs and lows.
“I’d have to say for the funny thing that happened was that we all listened to Taylor Swift this whole season typically after meets,” Ferris said.
Ferris has been running ever since 8th grade and immediately felt a connection to the sport.
“My love for the sport began in the fall of 8th grade during XC season and from there on out, I knew this was the sport that I’ll be continuing throughout my high school career and potentially college as well,” Ferris said.
