‘Galentines Day’ activities that beat sitting at home
February 11, 2020
Often times, a group of friends find themselves bored with nothing to do. Holidays like Valentine’s Day are no different. Lucky for you, I compiled a list of (hopefully) fun things to do this Feb. 14. At the risk of this article of sounding too much like Buzzfeed, your “Galentine’s Day” celebration right around the corner, so here are a few things you can do with your gal-pals, single or not.
Wii/video game night
Getting your friends together to play some good, old-fashioned MarioKart and Just Dance is the perfect combination of having fun with friends and fierce competition. If you don’t have a wide selection of games, run down to your closest Family Video and rent a bunch for cheap. Make sure to buy some snacks while you’re out and about as well!
DIY day
Few things are more humorous than attempting to make a classic Pinterest masterpiece and ending up with something a seven-year-old would scribble together in first-grade art class. Spend a few minutes scrolling through the internet and find something that looks seemingly easy and head over to your closest craft store and pick up some colorful paper and paint and try your best!
Bake off
Friends turned competitors for the night, get a small group together, pick a seemingly basic recipe, get the ingredients, let your imaginations run wild, and bake! Have a cookie decorating contest, find out which friend makes the best cupcakes, and crown the baking champion at the end of the night!
All-nighter and brunch in the morning
Although Valentine’s Day is on a Friday this year, after a tiring all-nighter and a “quick” pregame nap with all of your friends, head over to a breakfast diner and get some delicious brunch food! Nothing screams “Galentine’s Day” like sharing a giant stack of heart-shaped pancakes with your friends.
Laser tag and arcade games
Act like a 10-year-old for a night and go to an arcade and destroy your friends at air hockey and laser tag! Laser tag allows you to pick hilarious code names, so you can participate in some friendly fire in anonymity. After friendships have been put at risk, playing skeeball and getting cheap candy from the ticket stand should heal all wounds.
Movie night
Ahhh, the classic rom-com movie night. Sometimes, you just need to rent some cheesy movies, order some extra-cheesy pizza and have a good time hiding your tears in front of your friends. If you want to take your movie night to the next level, make a giant blanket and pillow fort for you to camp out in. Hopefully, it won’t collapse too many times! Good luck!
Indoor picnic
Sadly for some, Valentine’s Day is during the winter, so you can’t enjoy some of the nice and warm outdoor activities. The solution? Bring the party inside! Have you and some friends bring their own dish or order from a restaurant, whatever floats your boat, and have an indoor picnic.
