Athlete of the Month: Lauren Lucina

As a child, gymnastics served as an outlet for senior Lauren Lucina to expend her energy while still having fun.
Today, she competes at the varsity level as the only DGN senior on the DGN-DGS co-op team.

“I think my mentality towards the sport never changed that much. Over the years though, I put more effort into it and worked to get better, but I have always tried to make the sport fun,” Lucina said.

She was a part of last year’s regional champion team, placing third on beam and qualifying for sectionals.
Head gymnastics coach Kristyn Campos notices the traits of a mature gymnast.

“Lauren has already shown an incredible work ethic in the gym. Lauren is a quiet leader, she shows her leadership by listening and working on corrections to improve her skills,” Campos said.

Lauren hopes that the experience she brings to the table will make her a valuable resource for her teammates.

“I just hope that I am someone the other gymnasts can look to for guidance or help,” Lucina said.
