January 8, 2017
For the first time in school history, the Cauldron yearbook placed 3rd in their division in the 2016 Illinois Journalism Education Association Yearbook Contest.
“I am very proud of the hard work that our staff put into the book,” editor-in-chief senior Daniel Crane said. “It was really nice seeing everything come together and knowing that our hard work did not go unnoticed.”
The Cauldron submitted their “Our Journey” yearbook from the 2015-2016 school year to the competition.
“This was the best we have ever done in the competition, I am always super excited to see the book come together, I feel that the staff’s hard work has been validated though this placement,” Cauldron adviser Kathy Smith said.
The Cauldron also received second in best copy writing, third in best sports coverage, fourth in best graphics, first in best theme development, and third in best coverage of school year.
“The Cauldron receiving 3rd place from the IJEA is a huge honor for DGN overall as the yearbook is designed to represent every person and aspect of our school as a whole. This award is a result of all of the hard work the Cauldron staff puts in year after year to produce the best book possible, and I am grateful our dedication and hard work was recognized at this level,”
last year’s editor-in-chief Julia Zita said. “Personally, I view this award as a great honor as it is something I had been working towards my entire time on staff, and it is nice to know that all of the work I put in was acknowledged and rewarded.”
The theme for the 2016-2017 Cauldron is “Behind the Scenes”.
