Senior cross country runner Philip Cupial has been leading the DGN boys cross country team with strong performances to start the season. Cupial is the top-ranked runner in Illinois Class 3A, according to Illinois Running News.
“It goes to show that getting recognized here, with all the great student-athletes we have, is no minor thing,” Cupial said. “For me and my team, we have some high goals, so it’s an awesome feeling.”
Cupial has been progressing at a high level throughout his high school career, especially in the last year.. His recognition is the result of hard work, according to head coach John Sipple.
“Just being physically a year older makes a big difference,” Sipple said. “He’s been able to grow in his training volume and handle a larger workload, which translates into a higher level of fitness.”
Cupial hopes to continue his senior season enjoying every moment with his teammates and coaches, while striding toward success. He plans to carry his passion for the sport into the next level of competition.
