With the upcoming 2025-2026 school year, DGN will be implementing a new student information system (SIS) called Infinite Campus. For the past 20 years, D99 has used the SIS eSchoolPlus. This particular SIS will be unavailable in upcoming years.
“In 2030, eSchoolPlus will no longer be an option, so we decided to begin our investigation and transition to a new SIS last year. After thoroughly investigating our options for a new SIS, we decided to go with Infinite Campus as it best fits the unique needs of our district,” Assistant Superintendent for Learning Resources Travis McGuire said.
Infinite Campus is a SIS that keeps track of each student’s academic, athletic, and extracurricular engagements at DGN. This way, administrators and teachers alike can better organize the information and keep tabs on student activity.
“The daily information includes, but is not limited to, attendance, grades, office visits, academic planning, food service, payments, and assorted documents. Infinite Campus has over 1,500 available tools to help manage our daily operations while helping to make things more efficient for our staff, students, and parents alike,” McGuire said.
While students have become accustomed to “scanning in” with their school-issued IDs if they come in after the bell rings at 8:20 AM, this new computerized system will be in effect throughout the entire school day.
“On the student side, the most notable changes will be in using scanners that will be around the building. We are planning on the daily use of scanning into the building using your physical student ID or digital ID in the student app, digital hall passes, and attendance scanning into each class, offices, and other locations in the building,” McGuire said.
The main priority in installing Infinite Campus is to ensure student safety across the entire school.
“You scan in because it’s a safety issue. They want to know who came in and when you left,” a DGN staff member said. “I think the goal for this system is to take it out of the teachers hands. So the goal of this infinite campus is for them to know where every student is at all times, and that’s going to incorporate hall passes.”
Infinite Campus will provide many positives for staff, but some students are skeptical as to how the entire operation will work.
“I don’t think it’s going to run smoothly. People are not going to bring their ID. I just don’t think it’s going to be very effective,” senior Sophia Barofsky said. “I feel like teachers are already doing fine with attendance right now, and I think they are doing everything they can do to get the attendance for the kids.”
On the other hand, others are hopeful that the new system will provide students with the structure they need in order to succeed in academics and extracurricular activities. There will not be as many chances for students to use their own discretion.
“I honestly think it’s a good policy because many students get away with leaving; but if they stay, and we have to check in and out of class, then our grade averages will be higher and kids will actually benefit from it and become better disciplined to show up,” junior Ruby Kowalski said.
Even with a multitude of student and staff opinions, Infinite Campus seems to be an inevitable change in D99 and one that hopefully will be for the better.
“Infinite Campus has over 1,500 available tools to help manage our daily operations while helping to make things more efficient for our staff, students, and parents alike,” McGuire said.
