While Swedish pop singer Tove Lo is primarily known for her catchy ballad “Habits,” her sold out performance at Chicago’s Metro concert hall secured her place as a dominant force in Pop music.
She began her performance by sharing a personal story about discovering love at a nightclub, which was the plotline for a few songs off of her album, “Queen of the Clouds.” After her dramatic opening monologue, she ran out on stage to open the show with the first song off of her new album, titled “My Gun.”
While a couple of Lo’s songs explore dark themes of love and loneliness, the tone of her music did not prevent her from containing her energy on stage. Throughout each song, she was on her feet, running back and forth, and jumping up and down to the beat. Her upbeat and chaotic stage presence worked to her advantage, as the audience danced along and screamed every word to “Habits.”
Aside from her unique stage presence, Lo captured the audience’s ears with her raw, powerful vocals. Her vocal range is impressive, as she is able to hit high, soprano-like notes with ease. Her performance was genuine because she sang with a natural tone while managing to express the messages and passion embedded within her lyrics.
Overall, Lo’s edgy and passionate performance, filled with excitement and emotion, proved her to be an artist to watch in the industry.
